Today, more than ever, it is important to hire the right person and get a good match. That’s why the Senior Employment Center invites employers to become involved in our program, to ensure that we are providing our people with the skills you need. Our Business Advisory Board is made up of local employers who meet once a quarter to compare notes on the ever-present challenges you face. For you it’s a chance to network with one another and share solutions to the problems you encounter. We provide the coffee and you provide the conversation. For us it’s a chance to get an inside look at the types of demands you, as an employer, are encountering in filling an opening. This helps us tailor our training assignments so that once our mature workers complete those assignments they are fully job ready for today’s marketplace. Why not consider joining us for our next meeting on May 6, 2010. Just give us a call to let us know you are planning to attend and we will save you a seat. |

Laura Leoneti and Ken LeMonte were welcomed as new members of the Senior Employment Center (SEC) Business Advisory Board during the quarterly meeting Feb. 4, 2010. The breakfast meeting was held at Lake Anna YMCA Community Center, where the board members took a tour of the facility. Members in attendance were surprised to learn the breadth of services available at the center, which opened in December of 2007. The 57,000-square-foot center encompasses a gym with a walking path around it; a swimming pool and a kids’ pool; a weight room with a jogging track and treadmills from which users can see out-of-doors; an exercise room; and locker rooms for men and women. Of special interest to the members, there are meeting facilities available as well. Leoneti, of Larock Home Care, decided to become a board member after attending an earlier meeting with a friend. Larock Home Care is a family-owned and operated home care agency providing non-medical assistance with the everyday needs of their clients. Since mature workers are among the group often chosen to act as aides in a home care setting, it is a natural match for the Senior Employment Center. Larock is also able to assist veterans and their spouses through the Aid & Attendance Special Pension (A&A), which is available through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Since this is a ‘pension’ benefit, it |

is not limited to those with a service-related injury. A&A can assist with care in the home, assisted living facility or nursing home. LeMonte, a representative of New York Life Insurance, is not new to working with the Senior Employment Center, having participated in both the Akron and Cleveland job fairs for the past few years. “The chance to network with other professionals on a regular basis is a real plus,” said LeMonte, and that is one of the reasons he chose to join the board. He has also hired mature workers through his job fair contacts with the organization, and feels he can offer some assistance to the program in other ways. The next Advisory Board meeting will take place on May 6, 2010. For further information, contact Don Zirkle at 330-762-8666, Ext. 174 or Mary Lou Bolanz x176 |
