Checking for updates no longer just refers to the latest weather announcement. While it is necessary to keep abreast of day-to-day fluctuations in the overall economic climate, we need to guard against the tendency to be so busy worrying about the weather we never step outside. When much of the news you hear emphasizes the negative, it can be hard to stay positive, but seeing a glass as half full can be a critical asset in maintaining a clear perspective. Whatever your fiscal calendar may be, it is likely you can point to some part of the year when things looked dire, only to see them rebound. These are the triumphs we need to celebrate. Past experience has demonstrated that the American business model, like the American spirit, is amazingly resilient and creative. No matter what comes our way, we traditionally first find a way to cope with, and then to overcome, any obstacles to success. There is an old saying that “Hard times build character,” and this is especially true in business, where good people and a ‘can-do’ attitude are what it takes to win. The Senior Employment Center is committed to working with local businesses as you plan the way to move forward in the face of today’s challenges. The mature workers we represent have a lifetime of experience dealing with change, and through a partnership with us you can benefit from that knowledge. Why not contact us today to learn about the many ways our services can support your efforts to sustain and grow? Our Employer Based Training is only one example; we pay up to twelve weeks of wages while you train your new employee. Give us a call or visit us online for More Details. |

Climate change doesn’t just refer to the weather |

As you are entering the last quarter of this calendar year it is time to review your progress to date. What seeds have you sown that may bloom into new business? If you were too busy just trying to maintain the status quo, it is not too late. Like leaf lettuce, there are some seeds that thrive in the cooler climate that the fall brings, and networking is one of them. A friend of mine once commented on how you always see five or six restaurants located within a block of one another, and wondered why anyone would open up practically next to the competition. As it happened, the other person at the table held a food franchise, and his answer was enlightening. The reasoning is actually based on the simple concept: one restaurant will draw hungry people to the area, and once a person is hungry all food looks good, so any restaurant in the vicinity has a chance to be the one who draws the business. This is the principal behind your average networking event. The networking event provides the opportunity to meet, and people attend hoping to make a connection that leads to some business. Since everyone is there for the same reason, all of the attendees are generally willing to listen to what you have to say. The only problem is in any room of people, you are lucky to get a chance to speak with four or five individuals before your time is up. We have a new spin on networking that solves that problem. Our Business—to—Business Speed Networking Events are a little more organized. We invite representatives from 60 or so different businesses, and we assign each person a number. Then, over the course of four hours people move from table to table, and group to group, in a round robin fashion. By the end of the event, everyone will have had a chance to present information about their business to everyone else. Not only that, you will have had a free lunch as well. Based on the feedback from our last two events, this really works! Why not view a recap of our October 21st B2B event? |
