We all have expectations and, when changes in the economy lead to those expectations not being met, it can be very disturbing. The key is to avoid that frantic feeling and instead focus on how to approach the issue from a new direction. Right now, many employers are wondering how to encourage business growth without incurring higher expenses. If that seems like an impossible task, consider developing a working partnership with the Senior Employment Center. Our organization listens closely to our company partners concerns so we can assist them in determining future employment needs and compiling a plan for meeting them in a timely and economical fashion. Mature workers are rated very high in productivity, low in absenteeism and strong on job loyalty and commitment. Our candidates are ready to join your company and willing to spend the time it takes to learn your job-specific skills. In return, we are willing to cover all the payroll costs—wages and taxes—for up to 12 weeks of training through our Employer-Based Training program. It is our way of thanking you for recognizing the value of mature workers and giving them an opportunity to demonstrate the positive benefits of hiring them. We have offices throughout the state, so just find your county on our locations map and contact your local representative for more information on how to become one of our corporate partners. We look forward to working with you! |

Open house was a great success at our Hillsboro office. We were visited by Paul Magnus, Vice President of Workforce Development from our corporate office. The Red Shirts, a group of business owners and managers from Hillsboro and approximately 50 guests were present to help eat all the good food. We had three visitors sign up for the SCSEP program. One of these enrollees has already found employment. Those who have become employed since the middle of February are: Carol Food Service Ruth store clerk Pat Host Agency hire/Senior Center Linda production clerk Phil state tested nurse tech Mature Services paid for the STNA state testing, which assisted with helping Phil to obtain his employment. We have a lot of these opportunities for our participants that will also benefit the employers when they are hired. There are presently 105 participants in our six counties that are on the program at this time. Most Americans don’t have the words ”quit” or “give up” in their vocabularies. Seniors 55 and over are not always ready to retire. They have a strong desire to work and sometimes have a family to support making them dedicated to finding employment.
