Cincinnati’s Senior Employment Center (SEC) enrolled Gayle G. in their Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in October 2009. The SEC, recognizing the importance of confidence in the successful job search, developed a plan that would not only upgrade Gayle’s marketable job-skills but boost her self-confidence as well.
The Cincinnati SEC placed Gayle into a work-training assignment at a Butler County host agency that partners with SCSEP. While there, Gayle worked at upgrading her marketable job skills and gained customer service experience by providing hospitality services for her host employer. She greeted guests as they were arriving and administered client satisfaction surveys as they were leaving. In March of 2010, Gayle completed her SCSEP subsidized placement and relocated to the Cincinnati office to participate in the SEC Job Club.
The SEC Job Club package teaches mature workers like Gayle how to showcase their updated job skills and experience. As soon as Gayle completed the SEC Job Club, she submitted a ‘fresh-off-the-press’ resume’, received an interview, and was hired at Lowe's Home Improvement Center.
Gayle says she owes her success in finding employment so soon to the services she received at her Cincinnati Senior Employment Center.
