New Printers Distributed to New Computer Users
Congratulations to Priscilla Coleman from our Portsmouth office on receiving a new printer from Connect Ohio. In January, partner organizations of the Every Citizen Online (ECO) free basic computer-training program received 910 new printers from Connect Ohio that were donated by Lexmark, are wireless, and valued at nearly $100 each.
The ECO training program is available to any Ohio adult and consists of 6 hours of basic training. Enjoy your new printer Priscilla!
Another win for EBT
Employer Based Training (EBT) is a terrific program for employers and participants alike. Our participants, who have received up to date computer training in actual job settings, are reliable and hard working. Through EBT, employers can hire them, with wages for their initial training period paid by Mature Services. This offer sounds too good to be true but it isn't.
We recently worked with Attorney Richard Campbell of Portsmouth Ohio, who says, "I have had good luck with your program. Linda Smith has old-fashioned qualities which serve her well in the modern day workforce. She is loyal, hard-working and honest. She has a lot of general work experience and common sense. In my business I am out of the office a lot, and clients often stop by and make payments. It is nice not to have to worry about being stolen from."
This is the second EBT Attorney Campbell has entered into with us, and both EBT's have worked out great. The first, a woman he hired several years ago, continued to work with him until she retired. Attorney Campbell was so pleased with our program he decided to call us back to replace her, and Linda Smith was his choice.
We are very interested in creating new partners who could benefit from our EBT program. Former participant Linda Smith says, "I think every employer who takes advantage of the EBT program has the benefit of getting a good, reliable employee. I really am thrilled to be able to say I was hired because of this opportunity. I wish everyone who works for Mature Services to have this good luck."

Partnering with the Portsmouth Public Library
If you have visited your local library recently, you may have noticed an increase in computer use. Portsmouth Public Library is no exception. Many in the mature population have had little or no access to computers or the internet in the past and they are yearning to learn. The Portsmouth Public Library has responded to the cry for help by offering many computer courses from beginner to advance. Some of the classes they offer free of charge to the public are: Photo Editing, CD Burning, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, as well as the Connect Ohio courses.
Over the last year, Portsmouth Public Library has partnered with the Senior Employment Center to provide participants with valuable computer classes. Richard Calver, IT Lab Assistant, has worked with over 25 SEC participants on subjects such as e-mail, online job search, and computer basics. Sarah Lowe, Training Specialist for Employment & Training Solutions says, “Our participants really enjoy the Library classes. They say ‘Richard is a great instructor. "We plan to continue our partnership with the Library, utilizing this valuable tool in our community."
