Small Scale Job Fair Brings out Employers
Mature Services most recent Mini-Job Fair brought together employers and older job seekers for an afternoon of job opportunities and networking.
Sixteen employers participated in the January 29th Mini-Job Fair held by Mature Services’ Employment & Training Solutions at the First Congregational Church in Akron Presenting employers included Redfish Promotions, The Sirak-Brockett Agency, LTD., National Church Residences, Goodwill Industries, Akron Public Schools and many more. This was the first Mature Services’ job fair for some employers including Lily Homecare, Akron Racers and Help Foundation.
At this Mini-Job Fair, we got to catch up with Samantha Brodie who handles marketing and sales for Thomas Limousine. Professional chauffer, Peter Hartney, was there as well. Mr. Hartney met the company at last year’s Mature Workers’ Job & Career Fair when he was seeking employment and got hired! Thomas Limousine has attended numerous Mini-Job Fairs as well as the largest job fair Mature Services hosts, the Mature Workers’ Job & Career Fair held once each year.
When asked about his position, Hartney said, “It’s a perfect fit for me; I love it. Thomas Limousine has extremely good training programs and helps you achieve all the goals you want. Flexible hours are also a plus,” Hartney added. READ MORE

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

Hands-On Training at Portage Lakes Career Center
From July 16th through the 20th, Mature Services Employment & Training Solutions and Portage Lakes Career Center partnered to conduct a Building Maintenance Technician course. This five day program taught participants about topics such as power tool safety, basic electrical repair, carpentry, cleaning multiple types of surfaces, and much more. The goal of these classes is to assist older workers in updating their skills and becoming more successful in finding employment in a maintenance-related position.
